More entries ...

Hello all,

Just a note to say I have a number of new entries in my inbox, but I will have to wait until tonight to get them all in the spreadsheet. I will also have to reconcile the spreadsheet with all the non-starters in the Tour, and roll in the alternates.

If anybody enters after today's stage, they just need to ensure none of their riders have scored any points in the Pool. Happy Tour watching!

In the meantime, the Canadian championships are underway here in Quebec City ...

TDF Pool update

Thanks to everyone who has entered the Cyclery 2006 Tour Pool so far! I'm sure you're all following developments over there with interest, so I thought I'd just clarify the situation vis a vis our Pool. Anyone whose rider doesn't start the Tour (for whatever reason) will have that rider replaced with one of the alternates submitted. When all is said and done, any entry that still has fewer than nine riders will be asked to submit additional alternates until their team is full. If we have to do this after the Tour starts, you just have to submit riders who have not yet scored any points in the Pool.

That's all for now, enjoy the scandalous reading ...

Entering the 2006 Tour Pool

It appears there have been some problems accessing the online registration, so, if you haven't already done so, to enter please just send me directly your entries to kwestwood@rogers.com.

Please don't forget to include your name, your entry name (if you have one), your email address if it has changed or if you are a new entry, your nine main picks, your three alternates, your team pick and your guess of the total number of finishers. Also, please indicate your method of payment (Paypal, cash at the store, I've even had one person say "Vince said he'd pay for me ... ").

Please forward this to anyone who might be interested in entering! With T-Mobile excluding Jan Ullrich because of his connection with Operation Puerto, things are starting to get interesting ...

Tour rider list

For those of you who haven't had the time to brush up on the Tour, here is a full list of entrants (teams, plus riders with country and team code) from the event website (www.letour.fr), including alternates.

Note that the Wurth team (formerly known as Liberty Seguros - Wurth, and more recently as Astana - Wurth) has been asked not to come to the Tour because of the doping scandals, but it looks like they will come anyway. Their team code is LSW, by the way.

Paypal info

PAYMENT OF ENTRY FEES:
You can either pay in cash at the Cyclery (please address yourself to Kiwi Mike) or through PayPal, by going to www.paypal.com.
The fee for this is 11$ and not $10 - Paypal does not do this service for free so the extra 1$ is to offset that charge. The email is tdf2006@magma.ca. Please be sure to include your name or team name with this payment so that we can match up who has sent the money. Any questions or need further clarification, please don't hesitate to write to Richard Thomas at that address.

**NOTE** This address was mistyped in the original Tour Pool Entry page and has been corrected.

2006 The Cyclery TDF Pool

Welcome to the 2006 The Cyclery Tour de France Pool!

The Tour Pool is back for 2006, and this is going to be an exiting year with a wide-open Tour after Lance Armstrong took his ball and went home. Reflecting the completely changed nature of the Tour, there is an important change to the Tour Pool: no more handicaps! Now you can pick any rider you want – but be careful! Some of the guys expected to step up where Lance left off might crack under the pressure. Add a huge drug investigation in Spain, crashes and injuries and we have the makings of a very exiting Pool.

The Cyclery’s Tour Pool rules have not changed from last year (except deleting the handicaps, and of course there’s no team time trial), so what we need from you is the same: your nine chosen riders, three alternates, your chosen team, a guess at the total number of finishers overall, and $10. Kevin Field is setting up an online registration form which should be ready Tuesday. In the meantime, work on your picks! Here are the rules and points scales.

Please distribute this to anyone you think might be interested in joining this year.

Cheers,

Kris Westwood
kwestwood@rogers.com

2006 The Cyclery Tour de France Pool Rules:
• Each participant must pick 9 TDF riders and one team, and pay the $10 entry fee. Read the points scales before making your picks! Entry fees are pooled to form the Purse.
• Each participant may also pick 3 reserve riders in case his or her first picks do not start the Tour. Since the final start list will only be known on the day of the first stage, in a worst case scenario additional changes may be made up to that evening.
• Participants will be awarded points based on the performance of their riders and team in each stage and in the final overall standings (see points scale tables on back of sheet).
• For the Team Time Trial and the final team GC, only the results of the participant's chosen team will be scored.
• BASTILLE DAY RULE: a French rider winning the stage on July 14 and/or wearing the yellow jersey ON THAT DAY (ie. leading after the July 13 stage) scores double points for those respective classifications.
• The winner of the Pool is the participant who scores the most points.
• In the event of a tie, best GC rider decides, followed by number of stage wins, number of second places etc.
• In the event that two participants pick identical riders and teams, the tie breaker will be the participant whose guesses closest to the total number of finishers. If there is still a tie, the participants will share whatever prize they have won.
• The winner of the Pool will receive 25% of the Purse; 2nd will receive 15% and 3rd will receive 10%. The remainder will be donated to the Seenite Sports young rider bursary.
• In the event of the Tour being canceled due to a drug scandal, all entry fees will be returned minus a 5% administrative fee, which will be funneled into a beer fund.
• In the event of a dispute, Kiwi Mike's and Kris Westwood's rulings are as God's law, and damned be all who take them lightly!
• Scoring for the Pool is administered by Kris Westwood and his pool of trustworthy assistants. Daily updates will be available through email subscription, details to follow.

HANDICAP SYSTEM
Lance Armstrong is no longer racing, so this year’s Tour is a wide-open affair. We have decided not to handicap any riders this year. Remember, it’s often the lesser-known riders who rack up the big points, especially in the early running.
