The final, official results are not in yet, but the question everybody's asking is, whassup with the prizes?
Well, as grizzled Tour Pool veterans will attest, there are two kinds of prizes in the Tour Pool: cash and merchandise.
First, there's cold, hard cash. Based on our total haul of $980 this year, $490 goes straight back into prizes, as follows:
1st $150
2nd $75
3rd $55
4th $50
5th $40
6th $35
7th $30
8th $25
9th $20
10th $10
As you all know, the remaining $490 go straight to the Seenite Sports espoir bursary for local cyclists. Of course, any prize winner who donates his or her cash winnings back into the bursary earns an automatic spot in paradise, thus permitting them all manner of sinning ways for the remainder of their lives. Not to mention the eternal gratitude of Ross Knight.
The second kind of prizes are the generous donations of the Cyclery and local reps. We have on offer the following:
Tour Pool winner: A Giro Pneumo helmet
Tour Pool second overall: A signed George Hincapie jersey
Tour Pool third overall: A pair of Michelin Tour de France edition tires
Most days in the lead: A pair of Shimano wheel bags
Most stage wins: A carbon water bottle cage
Greatest drop in the standings from day 1 to finish: A Cyclery water bottle and socks package
Greatest climb in the standings from day 1 to finish: A Level 6 hat
Top-ranked entry that picked Astana: A Cyclery water bottle and socks package
Lanterne Rouge: a red blinky light
Once the final results are official on Sunday, we will announce the happy winners, who can then pick up their prizes at the Cyclery, starting Tuesday. In the meantime, don't count your chickens until they're hatched ...
